Marks, Jennifer B. "Obesity in America, It's Getting Worse." N.p., n.d. Web.
The article “Obesity in America, It’s Getting Worse” reflects on how nearly two thirds of adult Americans are overweight or obese. This article proved that Americans are eating way too much and exercising way too less; giving very valid examples on how exercise is becoming less available in America today. There are no bike paths, side walks or stair cases that are easy to access so society takes the easy way out and choices an elevator over taking the stairs for their cardio of the day. Then the article transitions into how heath care professionals are trying to help. By raising more awareness on obesity and how social aspects really affect how much people are dieting and exercising. The main point of this article was for people to “make better food choices” and focus on sticking to those choices rather than starving or hard core workouts on a regular basis, the point was balance is key.
The most interesting part of this piece was how the author addressed every issue and cause pertaining to obesity and not just one specific point. Having all the facts and understanding the whole picture truly helped me as reader understand the points he was making. Saying that successful weight loss results from a combination of motivation, exercise, and a balanced diet really gave me a sense on which points I need to focus on in my research. Before you start any topic you need to know the base behind it and this article really helped me understand the true cause and fix of obesity.
My tweet will pertain to how nearly two-thirds of adult Americans are overweight or obese.
"Obesity/Overweight Risk Factors and Causes." - Obesity/Overweight. N.p., n.d. Web. 12 Oct. 2011.
The article “Obesity/Overweight Risk Factors and Causes” is one of the simplest yet informative articles yet. It gives every possible cause of obesity in America from lifestyle habits, age and medications to poverty and psychological issues. My research would pertain to more of the topic of poverty because that is a social aspect that contributes to obesity in America. It was interesting to see how much poverty sadly does contribute. Throughout this article it becomes more logical, people who are less fortunate do not have the money to spend on organic food so they are forced to buy processed, unhealthy food. This article also made a very valid point on how what type of neighborhood a family lives in can determine how much exercise they participate in. Some neighbors are not safe for a woman and her child to be walking around alone, therefore no exercise can be performed.
The most interesting part of this article was how well structured and factual it was. It was laid out to a point where I could fully understand the impact each point had on obesity. Before reading this article I had not thought of that exercise could be diminished in a family because of the income they bring in. But I was wrong. I did not realize how unsafe some neighborhoods and areas are for children and even adults to exercise in.
My tweet will pertain to how social aspects really determine how much exercise a person or a family is putting in a daily basis.
