Fat Reasons for Fat Problems
Obesity in the United States is a topic that most are aware of, we know it is horrific but do we know what social aspects really cause obesity to be so prominent in the United States? My audience is going to be my teacher and classmates, who are all young adults; I am happy that my audience is still at an age where they can change their own habitats that could lead to obesity. For some it is too late in their life, with age comes deterioration and once one is obese it is very hard to change the patterns and habits that led to the weight gain in the first place. About 35 percent of men and 37 percent of women are obese. Another 40 percent of men and 30 percent of women are overweight. In the 1970’s, about 45% of Americans were overweight and it is predicated that by 2020 that number will almost double to 74%. Obesity in America is not getting better, in fact, its getting much worse and medical solutions are not purely going to fix the problem, the social aspects are playing a much bigger role.
Research shows that social aspects in the United States is one of the main causes of obesity. Lifestyle habits, poverty, alcohol, and psychological issues. Personally obesity has affected my family and I have seen hand in hand how what people go through in life, and what type of income they have truly determines weight gain. Obesity truly can take over a persons life and as someone who has had to stand by and watch weight determine a loved one’s happiness is truly heart breaking. I am not concerned about finding statistics or research on my topic, but I am concerned about showing my audience how much the way we live really does affect our weight because most think it is just food and no exercise- which yes does contribute to obesity but not as much as everyone thinks it does.
