The advantages and constraints of using comedy as a genre could be when using comedy, it makes a topic lighter and easier to talk about. For example, for most people its easier to talk about or approach a topic that is tragic or awkward with a more comical approach. I would describe Trevor Noah’s style as a comedian as a man who knows how to not cross the line, he makes jokes just like any other comedian would but he knows how do not offend his audience. He knows where to draw the line and I like that. He tries to connect with his audience by directly speaking to them, calling out to them in the middle of his show. Personally, if I were to attend his show I would enjoy the experience more knowing that there is a possibility he will speak to me. Overall I think there are more advantages, there is one constraint that popped up. Depending how easily an audience is offended by certain topics or comments, using comedy to talk about a touchy subject might offended someone who was personally affected by something Trevor could be talking about.
Three topics Trevor talked about, was how strict America’s airports are, that most people do not know what is going on in the economy and more what’s going on with celebrities and finally how many stereotypes there are in the United States. Out of these topics the one that stood out to me the most was the airport topic. A potential research question from this topic could involve how security and American’s view certain stereotypes and who we discriminate against us as “dangerous.”
